Ai is just laziness, not cost efficient

Just saw a LinkedIn post about the difference between a normal AI generated photo and AI combined with creative direction (whatever that might be).

The images showed an AI model wearing a beige linen dress, a beige bag and a beige, European-style city. They were saying that the reason the campaign looked “real” was because of the creative direction. They started by creating a background for the AI model, defining the environment and narrative. The post said that the goal was to create images that feel like photography.

A Creative Director is a leader who manages a team. They come up with ideas, coordinate with teams, and keep the project on schedule. It’s easy to be a creative director when you only have to deal with a computer doing the job for you. This is not a creative director that had to deal with scheduling issues, photographers, models, weather, etc. I feel that eliminating every issue of the profession is just laziness. Creativity is supposed to get stronger during the challenge.

Meanwhile, I saw a girl showing behind the scenes of a dark fantasy photoshoot she did with her boyfriend and friends. This was just for fun, by the way.

Look, the AI photos looked fine, but not real. And yes, maybe a fashion photoshoot might have looked the same as the AI result, but having a real photographer and a real model and a real team would have made it special and alive. You know, human.

Big companies have the money to pay human models and photographers but they rather be cheap and lazy and do AI “photoshoots”.

AI “artists” would rather steal someone else’s art style and call themselves artists instead of putting on the hours it takes to make art.

Writers are even copy/pasting AI prompts on their books.

Animation studios prefer looking into AI ideas and concepts rather than going back to what made them special in the first place.

What makes Laika Studios amazing? Its human-made stop motion. Do you know how hard and time consuming it is to make stop motion look that good? It is not cheap and it is not lazy.

Art requires time and effort. AI is not a tool you use to finish a product, it’s a computer finishing the product and doing the job for you. It’s lazy. A brush or a drawing app will not finish that drawing for you. A camera will not take that shot you want. A writing app will not finish that book for you. An animation program, on its own, won’t finish that sequence you have in your head.

If you want an idea to come to life, put in the effort.

If you want something to look real, make it real. It won’t be real only because you say it is, or ask a computer to do it for you. If you want to make art, you cannot be lazy.

AI will not make you creative.
But it will make you mediocre.
